Head Coach:
Tom Warnica
I can’t believe I’m heading into my 15th summer as the BHAC head coach. I’ve been teaching 7th grade Math and coaching the swim teams at Derby Middle School for the close to 30 years. I’ve also been coaching in the NSSL for almost as long. I swam competitively for 12 years with teams at Heart of the Hills Swim Club, OLY, and Rochester Adams HS before moving on to my freshman year at Oakland University where I was an All-American. Outside of the pool I am a huge Detroit sports fan and enjoy watching football and hockey in the winter and Tigers baseball in the summer. A fun fact that most people don’t know about me is that during my first year swimming at HHSC, when I was 7 yrs old, I was disqualified in every meet swimming the 25 Butterfly – UNTIL the last meet which was at BHAC! I’m really excited about our upcoming season and can’t wait to spend the summer with the great swimmers and families at BHAC!
Assistant Coaches:
Steve Drinkert
Hi everyone. This is coach Steve. Here is some information about me – I recently completed my 23rd year of teaching for the Dearborn Public Schools. I’ve also completed over 20 years of coaching swimming in the vicinity of Birmingham, plus coached for many summer swim seasons in the area. If memory serves me correctly, this will be my seventh season coaching at BHAC. This is a great group of swimmers, coaches, and parents to work with. I look forward to meeting the new swimmers and parents. To the returning swimmers and parents, I have been working on my puns since last summer.
To wrap up my bio, I wanted to share some words of wisdom that came from an ancient Greek philosopher named Mediacrates. He said, “In the world of gallons, be a litre.”
Laura Jamieson
Once a shark, always a shark. I started coaching for BHAC in 2019, but my time as a shark started LONG before that! I was 4 years old (1995!) when I started swimming for BHAC for the pre-team. That was when they had “C’ Finals for the pre-teamers! We swam across the deep end with older swimmers cheering us on. I swam for the sharks for 13 summers (ages 5 to 18) and loved every minute of it. I made lifelong friends and still have a record! When it’s not summer and I’m not on the pool deck I am teaching Language Arts at Van Hoosen Middle School in Rochester. I enjoy going to workout at AKT, hanging out with friends and family, and cheering on the Detroit sports teams. As a kid, I always looked forward to spending everyday at BHAC. As an adult, I can say that it still makes me happy! I can’t wait to spend the summer with all the families at BHAC.

We have updated and attached our 2023 BHAC Swim Team Handbook. This is a great resource for new swim families that are trying to navigate the first year of swim team. There are lot of events and meets that take place over an 8 week period of time, and this will help provide an overview of our team and what to expect at a typical swim meet and throughout the season. On the last page, we have included a list of our meets with all the start/warmup/arrival times. Please refer to this or team snap schedule to see when/where each meet will take place.
